The Osborn

The Osborn, a project located in Rocky Ford, Colorado, is a showcase of what Studio Completiva excels at, building communities. We had the existing context in mind while designing and used the surrounding landscape and existing buildings as guides to help ensure The Osborn would fit into Rocky Ford seamlessly.

30 Units of permanent supportive housing in a mixed commercial and residential neighborhood, The Osborn invites residents to become an integral part of the community. Healing informed the design with emphasis on the outdoor features, interior design, and landscape design to promote safety, transparency, and a close proximity to the natural environment. The goals for the interiors were to be open, warm, and building reinforces the residential scale for the building. Programming welcoming. We accomplished this by ensuring the space was well-lit, acoustically tuned, and colors were intentionally chosen to create calm and soothing spaces to help encourage social interactions between residents. A flexible Community Room anchors the first floor as a space that encourages peer and community support. The Community Room opens to exterior patio and covered porch allowing programs to flow between inside and outside.

The facade and massing show the connection to the existing Rocky Ford vernacular. The two-story masonry base references the historic buildings in the commercial district, stair cores clad in corrugated metal punctuating the ends of the building acknowledges the agricultural heritage, and a wraparound porch at the base of the building reinforces the residential scale for the building.

The central staircase is colorful, filled with natural light and easily accessible in the lobby to promote wellness for the residents. The units include 24 one-bedroom, one bath units, and 6 two-bedroom, one bath units. The Osborn also includes a food pantry to support the residents, a shared laundry room, and flexible spaces.
