Colorado Air and Space Port Main Hanger Office Renovation
Studio Completiva worked with Adams County on a renovation of the Colorado Air and Space Port Main Hangar office space. During discussions with the CASP team, it was noted that the main terminal building had reached its capacity, necessitating additional office space to accommodate future growth while remaining adaptable for various uses. The program requirements include open office space, conference rooms of varying sizes, single-user bathrooms and showers, a locker room, an employee break room, and a multipurpose room for training and large group activities such as the ‘Young Eagles’ or other groups.
In the remodel, the design team envisions creating an airplane hangar-inspired look and feel to define the space. Flexibility for diverse uses is a primary design element. Removing the existing low ceiling grid and exposing the steel frame structure will create an open ceiling, providing a more spacious and airier atmosphere. The exposed ceiling space will be painted, incorporating ductwork and cable trays for all low-voltage and electrical wiring needs.
The open office layout will remain highly flexible, with no individual offices planned initially. The spaces includes furnished workstations, additional seating areas, and bar-style seating for short-term visitors or flexible working arrangements. Moveable tables and desks will facilitate training sessions and other large group activities. Small 'phone booths' or 'focus rooms' will be available for private phone calls or small video meetings, minimizing disruption to others. The employee break room features countertops, a large standalone refrigerator with an ice maker, a sink, a dishwasher, and space for coffee makers and microwaves.
